Zirconium Oxide, 250g
£9.00 (inc VAT)
Extremely stable cool white opacifier, survives without melting at very high temperatures. 4-7% produces semi opaque, 8-10% usually produces full opacity but some transparent glazes can require more. May be more mattifying than zirconium silicate.

Extremely stable, survives without melting at very high temperatures. 4-7% produces semi opaque, 8-10% usually produces full opacity but some transparent glazes can require more. Can have a more mattifying effect than Zirconium Silicate.
Low expansion levels means help reducing crazing, although crawling and pin holing can occur in high zircon melts - normally solved by cooling slower and ensuring a good bond between clay and glaze.
Less reactive with colourants than tin. Less effective as a opacifier than tin, however, stiffens the glaze and produces a harder glaze surface, as well as reducing thermal expansion more effectively than tin.
