Description
Metallic effect enamels by Milton Bridge offer wonderful new creative possibilities to the enameller - experimentation is definately recommended! The new range offers 45 different colours - 15 are opaque and 30 are transparent. There are two new groups - SHIMMER and METALLIC EFFECT. A vitreous enamel base is blended with an element that imparts the metallic or shimmer effect. Can be applied to copper, silver, gold and some alloys. Can also be used with leaded and unleaded enamels, layering with other colours and fluxes. The enamels do contain lead, although unleaded variants are expected in the future. If using pickling liquid do not leave the enamels in the mixture for any longer than necessary.
Application can be by both the wet and dry methods. For wet application a synthetic brush with long bristles is recommended. Excessive water can cause separation of the glitter components from the main enamel. Do not return wet enamel to the storage pot to avoid moisture transfer contaminating the whole batch. For dry application use a 100 mesh sieve and apply a solution with a wet brush or spray.
The suggest firing range is 780 - 830°C. Variation of the temperature will offer variation of effect. Supplied in a 50 g pot.
General health and safety advice:
Do not introduce enamels or colours to the mouth. Do not smoke or eat whilst using them. Handle them carefully, in small quantities, and store in closed containers. Wash hands thoroughly after use.
This range of enamels is so new that there are many effects that are as yet undiscovered.
The first photo shows the enamel applied over a black base on the left side. The enamel is applied over a copper base on the right side. The second photo shows the undertone of the enamel directly on copper.
