Copper Oxide Red (Cuprous), 100g

£3.84

Strong flux. Up to 5% will give an apple green colour under both oxidising and neutral conditions; yellow-greens in a potash glaze; blue-greens in a barium glaze; turquoise blue in an alkaline glaze. High lime glazes can create purples; high lime glazes with alumina can create purple splodges. Fired under reduction in an alkali glaze (with the addition of tin) it creates a copper red or sang de-boeuf. Cuprous red copper oxide, rather than cupric black copper oxide, is sometimes preferred for this latter application.

A strong flux that can cause the solubility of lead in low-sol glazes. Black and red copper oxide can be used interchangeably but some prefer to use the cuprous version (red copper oxide) when making reds. Tends not to mix into the liquid glaze as well as the black.
