Bentonite, 5kg
£11.16 (inc VAT)
Adding bentonite to glazes imparts better dry strength and a harder more durable surface and 1-2% can greatly improve glaze suspension. Adding it to clay bodies binds particles and fills gaps, giving more strength in the green and dry state.

Description
The most plastic and impermeable of common clay materials. Binds particles together to make bodies stronger in the green and dry state. Produces a more dense mass by its tiny particle size filling the gaps between others. 1 part bentonite can plasticize 10 parts of kaolin. Bentonite bodies are stronger but they dry slower, crack more and fire darker with potential iron specks. Warning - bentonite clay bodies may look dry when they're not - they must be very slowly dried to prevent steam being produced, creating cracks.
Adding bentonite to glazes imparts better dry strength and a harder more durable surface. 1-2% bentonite can greatly improve glaze suspension. Make into a paste before adding to glaze batches if not added dry to the powder. ?
